FOSTERING A PET
San Saba County Friends of Animals (SSCFOA) has a need for pets to be fostered. There are basically three types of foster opportunities in San Saba County. Fostering an animal is one of the most rewarding experiences and saves lives! If you are interested in Fostering for SSCFOA please contact us at [email protected].
Bottle Baby / Infant Fostering
During kitten and puppy season, we see very young pets that can’t eat on their own. These pets can’t survive on their own so we place them in foster homes. This type of fostering is a bit more involved because it requires the foster to feed the animal in their care every few hours for up to two weeks. SSCFOA supplies bottle baby fosters training and everything they need to care for the animal(s). During the foster period, a SSCFOA representative will update the foster parent regarding placement of the animal.
Medical Foster
Animals are often picked up by animal control with life threatening injuries, with a litter of kittens or puppies, very young or very old. Medical fosters usually require a peaceful and safe environment and need to be with a foster who has the time to monitor the pet’s wellness and progress. A SSCFOA representative will stay in touch with the foster to update them on the plan for the animal going forward.
Awaiting Transport
Some of SSCFOA pets have been tagged by a rescue and they need temporary refuge while they await transport. Foster parents caring for these types of pets may be asked to take the pet to a vet appointment or on occasion, drive them to a rescue.
Foster parents are required to fill out a foster application located on our website. SSCFOA reserves the right to deny applications if we feel it is in the best interest of the animal or applicant.
